Sharon Kearney / Silver Fern Physiotherapist introduces some injury prevention and core exercises **that can be use on the Gyroboard.
The
following four training videos have been supplied by Steve Jackson, Sport Science
Coordinator of the Ascot Hotel Southern Steel Netball Team.
“I have tried to develop exercises on the Gyroboard which mimic what actually happens
on court when landing off balance, getting knocked, and so on, while still concentrating
on the ball and what’s going on around them.”
In the videos, the athlete works through a variety of exercises, including jumps
and landings onto the deck, passes against the wall and with her coach, as well
as a variety of weights used to build core strength. The team have used the Gyroboard
for developing strength and rehabilitating injuries since the beginning of 2009,
and were one of the top four finalists in the 2009 ANZ Trans Tasman Netball Championship.
In this video, the athlete practices jumping onto and landing on the deck of the
Gyroboard.
In this video, the athlete uses the wall to practice passes, whilst maintaining
her balance on the Gyroboard.
In this video, the player utilises a variety of weights to assist with building
core strength.
In this video, a medicine ball is passed between the athlete and her coach, to improve
balance, co-ordination and proprioception.
